Orca Comb, 2022

By Veronica Rose Waechter

Alder wood collected from Tsimshian territory, northern BC

For personal use on hair or weavings, fits in small-medium hands very nicely.

A lively orca/ killerwhale / naaxhl carved neatly into the beautiful colours of the creamy red alder.

This piece of wood was found fallen, collected respectively, carved carefully with handmade and hand sharpened tools, slowly dried layer by layer, shapes formed, design prepared and slightly sanded. No oil, paint or sealant was added to this comb for practical reasons. With wear a natural oil coat will form.

Fact: using a wood comb is proven to be better for your hair; wood carries natural oils from root to tip, may properly massage the scalp and cause less friction and static to occur.
