Artist Statement:
Robins are common in the Ts'msyen territories that I live within, and because the wood originated from here I wanted to represent these little flyers. Robins hop around, spending much of their time close to the land, picking for bugs, and chirping their songs. Their bright attractive orange breast contrasts their washed grey body. Studying ancient Northwest Coast pieces in museums helped me to get this bird stance and delicate shape of the bird to match the true shapes. Female faces and motifs are represented on the tail and breast of the bird, connecting the people, place, and surrounding living creatures through forms.
